a good excersise in learning how to shade and blend

while these are actually photos not drawings, they are indeed very light in color. I read the reveiws and took a chance..everything that has been said is true. However, I felt like this book gave me the opportunity to excersise some artistic freedom that other coloring books have not. It is a really great excersise in learning about shading, blending, tones ext. Lots of people can't draw well, and this book gives them a chance to create a realistic looking piece of art that maybe they would not have been able to before. I have included a sample of a half done page from the book. Not for everyone, but I am enjoying this different style of book quite a lot.

This book is not for every colorist, filled with extremely lightened actual photographs. Includes of a good selection of breeds.

This book is not for every colorist, it is filled with extremely lightened, actual photographs that include of a good selection of breeds of dogs, you will find Terriers, Shepherd’s, Beagles, short haired dogs, long haired dogs, small dogs and large dogs, in a variety of scenes with most being full head or head and shoulder portraits, but also a few full body images for variety.
This book might be just what you are looking for if you are an experienced colorist who also enjoys adding your own details to images. These images have been lightened to the extent that many of the background and some of the details on the dogs are missing plus many of the images are cropped with one, both or parts of ears missing
This book has 40 illustrations, twice as many as a lot of books on the market and enough pictures I like, so I am going to keep this in my personal coloring library to practice colors, and colored pencil techniques for coloring eyes, noses, and fur. Perhaps I will even try to add some of my own details to a few of the images. This is definitely a challenging book .
1. This (8”x10”) book boasts 40 Illustrations, printed one per page (the back of each page is blank) printed on medium weight bright white paper.
2. All the illustrations are centered on the page and leave a ½ inch space between the image and the binding, this is plenty of space to easily color the entire image, to remove a single page from the book (I use a box cutter) or to cut the entire binding off for a coloring group (my son uses the schools large paper cutter to cut off the binding).
3. All markers bleed through the paper, I would just place a piece of paper under the page I am coloring if I use these to prevent damage to the next page (Two blank pages are located in the back of this book to use for this or test your colors.
4. 20 of the images are cropped by cutting off the dogs ears in ways that I do not care for, with the tip of the ear cut off, one ear cut off, part of an ear cut off or part of two ears cut off and many of the photos are not well balanced, it looks like they have been over enlarged to fit the dogs head on the page.
5. These images are photographs of dogs, printed in shades of gray and lightened for advanced colorists to bring to life with color and texture techniques, created with the idea that the lines will disappear and the finished images will look like you not only colored them but also drew the image. The problem is that most have been lightened so much that the backgrounds and some of the details on the dogs is missing and must be imagined and filled in by the colorist.
6. I am adding a picture that I colored with colored pencils, some of my favorite images and my least favorite to help you decide if this is just the right book for you.

Beautiful artwork, very realistic

Beautiful artwork, very realistic. Could possibly be actual photos, but done in such a way that allows you to be the artist. What I mean is, the lines are not bold and do not dominate the drawing. This way you can color over it to make it look realistic, if you have that kind of talent. I love it!! Book and quality of paper are good. The paper is thicker and slightly rough to hold color. You do not want super smooth paper as it will not hold color well. I'm an artist and so I really appreciate this type of coloring book. Very unique. I highly recommend it!
