Wisdom that transcends even the best translation

I am visiting a dear old classmate in Germany who is probably dying of cancer, and I found this book among his son's in the bedroom where I am sleeping. It was a gift by his wife, a medical doctor and therapist, to their adult son.
In the first few brief chapters I have found more wisdom and insight than one can imagine or expect in any book. I say this as one who reads voraciously, widely, and with care. (I recommended Martin Seligman's books to his wife in her distress, and profound and wonderful as Seligman is, even he lacks the pithiness I've seen so far this book.)
I have only seen the German edition. But the vividness of this books is clearly not merely the product of the translator, though perhaps I am more sensitive to the German words because I am reading in a language I know well but no longer often use--hence no turn of phrase seems a dull cliche.
I will seek out the Spanish original and other books by him in English. I am sure they are superb as well.
