Good description, leisurely pace

Stephanie Glassman is a single mom barely squeaking by, looking for her big break as a singer. She is undeniably talented, yet she's spending another Christmas season playing the piano at a department store. She is also, of course, without a boyfriend. Now her son's nanny is going into the hospital and she's about to lose her house. She has the requisite complement of girlfriend pals, a set of nutty parents and a granny who's having more sex than Stephanie.

But abruptly Stephanie's luck turns. A huge agent takes her on as a client and gets her a high-paying (if slightly shady) job recording songs for a big star who can't sing. A hunky actor is romantically pursuing her. And her son's father, a charming Italian stuntman, comes back into her life wanting desperately to be a father, to form a family. It's almost too good to be true. But with good fortune come difficult decisions.

While Stephanie was a thoroughly lovable heroine, this book moved far too slowly for my taste. It felt like the first three quarters of the book was set-up, and only in the last part, when scandals break and conflicts come to a head and the wrong decisions are made, does the story really become a page turner. I was never thoroughly convinced of the love between Stephanie and Frank, the actor. He wasn't well fleshed-out, and I was sort of rooting for the stuntman, who was adorable. The book is worth a read for British chick-lit fans, though, and those who enjoy a leisurely pace and good, descriptive writing.

It has become quite apparent to me that Sue Margolis likes to stick to the same theme of single/married moms looking for love and excitement in their lackluster lives.

In BREAKFAST AT STEPHANIE'S Margolis follows suit. Stephanie Glassman is a single mom/spirited jazz singer who aspires to make it big one day. But until then, she is spending the Christmas holiday playing piano and signing Christmas carols in a department store.

During one of her shifts, she gets spotted by Frank -- the sexy actor who she had a schoolgirl crush on, and had the pleasure of working with a few years before -- and his perfect fiancé. Discomfited by her current position (and uniform) she sulks home considering the situation to quite possibly be the worst she has ever encountered. But then, her son Jake's nanny breaks her hip, her grandmother calls her for advice about having sex with a pacemaker, and her dad is in a frenzy trying to get to the bottom of why he is being sent junk emails [...].

Can things get crazier? Try Albert, (Jake's father) the playboy wanting to come back into her life so that the three of them can be one happy family. Deep down Stephanie knows she doesn't want this with Albert. She loves him, but not in a romantic sort of way, however the three of them becoming a family is probably best for little Jake. To make the decision even harder, Frank professes his love for Steph, and now she has to choose between the two men.

Through all of this drama, Stephanie gets a big break that could possibly lead her to a huge fortune, except to add onto her already crazy life, she finds out that the deal isn't legit, and she will have to make a decision as to whether or not she will go through with it. It is this situation that helps Stephanie to figure out which man she will choose.

This novel was a tad mediocre to me. Coming from reading SPIN CYLE (also by Margolis) not to long ago, I was expecting this to be laugh out loud hit also. It was just average. Many parts of the story dragged, and the relationship between Stephanie and Frank wasn't expanded on enough for him to even have a point in the book. On the whole, Stephanie and Jake were such lovable characters, that they were the main reasons that I kept on reading. I loved the exchange between the two.

Not worth reading

Usually a book is redeemable if it has one of two positives: a good plot (even if the writing isn't great) or fantastic writing (even if the plot isn't great). This book had neither. I couldn't bring myself to care about any of the characters, and the so-called hilarity consisted of two jokes (an old woman having sex and spam email) that were dragged out the entire way through the novel. Plus, you can predict everything that's going to happen with every character from page 10.

Usually I pass all of my books along to friends when I'm finished, but this one went straight into the trashcan by the pool. I'm a fan of so-called beach reads but in this case, you'd be better off making a sand castle.

Unveiling revelation of Israel and the Bible as a blueprint for success

Cook masterfully invites the reader to climb higher in revelation while offering practical application at the end of each chapter entitled Make the Lesson Your Own.

Learn the necessity of being ready for judgment through the 10 virgins and why the ceremonial washing prior to a wedding in Jesus day was symbolic to forgiveness. Through the prodigal son in Luke 15, the reader will be challenged to forgive while extending grace. With the quest for Believers to reach their God-given potential, Cook parallels the Lone Ranger Samson style with David's who was surrounded by support revealing the benefit of community.

This work is a realistic depiction of the vicissitudes of life. "God will not spare us the battles of life. David had Goliath. You might have a debilitating illness. Experience Israel at Home!

Cook's newest book Secret's from the Ancient Paths allows the reader to experience Israel from the comfort of their desk or armchair. While geographically, historically, and scripturally saturated, the book is written in a such way that student, scholar, or leisure reader can enjoy the composition. Cook is also a gifted communicator and public speaker; his personality and endearing demeanor are manifested throughout the work. The photographs throughout the book help the reader to better understand the various settings found in scripture. Also, as a side note, there are no formatting issues in the Kindle version of the book. If you are looking for an introduction to the Israel of the Bible or searching for a resource to assist in teaching a lesson, this book will be a helpful resource. At the price offered, it is definitely worthy of a place in your personal library!

I love this book

I love this book. It's one you can read through or just pick a section. It's simple enough to not be overwhelming yet detailed enough that after you read it you feel rich with the knowledge that the author brings on the scripture and on Israel. With every lesson there are simplistic practical applications that are life-giving and draw you closer to the Lord. I think the best thing about it is that it's not really a devotional book and it's not really a textbook. It's a perfect marriage of both. I have a digital and hard copy so that I can always have one available. It's that good.

Star Wars Coloring Fun – many designs in both portrait and mandala style – printed two-sided on non-perforated paper

Rather than discuss how this is like or different from the various movies other than to note that images have been used from all six episodes thus far, I will discuss only how I feel about it as an adult coloring book.

The book is filled with portrait studies of various character and a lot of kaleidoscope style mandalas. The mandalas generally have a single repeating element from movies (robots, ships, weapons, etc.) What I found missing and would have liked would have been some stand-alone studies of the Death Star and the Millennium Falcon and other ships and vehicles. While I missed those, it doesn't detract from the overall large selection of Star Wars designs to choose from. My favorite characters were all well represented and as I enjoy coloring mandalas, I will have a lot of fun with those, too. The designs range from simple and open (especially many of the mandalas) to complex with intricate design elements (character portraits, especially.) This presents a nice range for me to color depending on the mood I am in that day.

The book has a nice heavyweight cardboard cover (front and back) which makes for a great solid surface to color on. The designs are printed on both sides of the page and the paper is not perforated. The binding is sewn rather than glued, so removing it takes only a few snips with a small scissor on a few pages.

There are only four designs which span across two pages. The rest of the designs are all single page with lots of room around the edges so that nothing is lost in the binding. The four two page designs are wallpaper style of repeating patterns and each is dedicated to a single subject: Yoda, R2-D2, C-3PO, Boba Fett, and finally, various ships in the midst of a battle. I think these are really cool designs though they don't line up very well in my particular book. When there are too many of these two-page designs with too much loss of image, I detract a point from my rating. That is not the case with this book – there are so few that it is really insignificant.

All of my markers bleed-through on this paper thought my Staedler triplus fineliners fared the best with more of a shadow image on the back of the page. I could still identify the color, so it merely bled less than the others. My gel pens worked fine and my coloring pencils worked fantastic – very smooth and creamy on this paper.

Confusing style choices

First of all the quality of the materials used to make this book are unquestionably great, with a nice hard cover and very thick pages. The actual images on those pages are a mix of decent Star Wars themed mandalas and abstracts mixed with a lot of characters surrounded by flowers... yes flowers. Pretty much every picture is.... Darth Vader, adorned with tropical flowers.... Yoda springing into action, with a background of garden flowers... Han Solo, behind intricate lattice with flowers. I guess that's what makes this an "adult" coloring book? I'd have preferred fewer flowers myself, but I'll still enjoy this book.

Beautiful Images to Color

I love the variety of beautiful images in this book. The book is very large in comparison to similar books. It has a very thick cardboard-like cover. There seems to be an equal balance of male to female characters to color. All of the characters are from Episode 1 through 6. Overall, the paper seems to be of good quality, but the images are doublesided. I use my water based markers without the color bleeding through. Since images are doublesided, some types of markers cannot be used to color without bleeding through. I have yet to use colored pencils because I have been enjoying using my gel pens and markers to color.

This book is insightful and informative. By the help of this book I have understood about KUNDALINI. Actually, I purchased this book because I had some curiosity about this meditation. A few days ago, my girlfriend suggested me about his book and I am glad to read this book.
By reading this book I have understood about how to unlock my secret spiritual power. By reading this book I have come to know about the history of KUNDALINI. This book taught me some grounding exercise, yoga exercise and much more. Overall, this book is fantastic and by reading this book I am pleased.

I feel enlightened after reading this book. This is the first time that I have heard about Kundalini and it was really explained well here. It has given indeed "The Secret To Unlocking Your Inner Spiritual Power." I think this is a profound book and I got so interested with the Mantras too. And the discussion about KUNDALINI YOGA: 7 Kundalini Yoga Exercises To Perform is also a revelation. Overall, my reading experience of this book has been a fruitful one.

This guidebook is informative and fully loaded with tons of information about kundalini. Actually, I purchased this book in the wake of curiosity and my curiosity grew up when I heard about it from my friends. Last week my cousin recommended this book and that is why I did not hesitate to purchase this book.

Hits the Mark!

First of all, please read Just Friends and Pure Fiction so you'll already know, and love, the characters who show up in this story! Otherwise, you won't know why Micah smiles at Rachel every morning the way he does and tells her, "it never gets old". and you need to know the background of Maddie's life and how hard Grant fought to pursue their courtship -- and you'll be broken hearted to see them in this state so few years into their marriage. So, far, this is my second favorite Jenn Faulk story, and I've also read Perfectly Pretend, Take Heart, Resolutions, and Home To You (my favorite!) But, this one assumes you know these folks, and just like the Christmas season is, this is a fast paced, hectic, fun, frustrating, struggle to keep the reason for the season at the forefront of your thoughts and activities, THRILLING roller coaster of a tale!! My favorite line is, "Happy birthday Jesus, look what we got our children -- a tiny minion of Satan!" This story is relationship RICH, and I love how Ms. Faulk writes the couple dialogue -- it's perfect! There are a lot of whispered bedtime conversations, so the kids don't wake up, and it's so true to life! She also, masterfully and without preaching, encourages you to cast your cares on Christ and leave in His hands the things you are not equipped to fix, trusting that His ways are perfect! Flawed folks, just like you and me, trying to serve the Lord to the best of their ability. Another reviewer mentions sexual innuendo, and it shows up, but it's between married couples and not at all explicit. It seemed a natural part of the story and honestly done, not overly sensual. Delightful story, full of heart. . .some ache and depair, but also joy and hopefulness!

IMO, not one of Jenn Faulk's best

I have read two other books by Jenn Faulk (Resolutions; Just Breathe) and loved them both. However, I struggled through this one.

First, I had a difficult time keeping the characters straight, especially in the beginning. The first couple of chapters quickly introduce every single character in the book (a lot to be hit with at once!) so I was constantly wondering, "Wait, who is this?" Perhaps, if before I read this story, I had read some of Jenn's other books that included these characters, I wouldn't have found this so confusing. Since I had not, I struggled with this almost all the way through the book.

Also, the author's writing style is very fluid, and I had a hard time getting into the prose and had to read many sentences several times. Even then, I often struggled to grasp what the author was trying to say. Jenn interwove a lot of the character's background info throughout the story. I don't mind a bit of light reminiscing, but after a while, I wanted to be IN the current story and move past all of the characters' background dramas.

One small, final grievance... Jenn's writing is squeaky clean, but this tale included a lot more sexual innuendo than in her other books I have read. Granted, they are all married or are about to be, but I could have done without some of that. Since I have enjoyed 2 out of 3 of Jenn's books that I've read, I'll give the author another try. I do hate that I found this one a flop.

What's a family holiday without DRAMA!!

Oh my goodness!! This story made me laugh, cry and examine myself!! Great Christmas story. Weddings are not the happy ending, but the beginning of a lifetime of hard work and love!!
My heart hurt for Maddie! I was trying not to want to strangle Grant!! Fortunately Jenn Faulk never lets me down. She wrapped up three great romances in a book that took about two hours to read!! She also added in some other family members just for good measure!!! Don't miss this one. I highly recommend that you read Just Friends and Pure Fiction first so you get the beginnings of Rachel and Micah's story and Maddie and Grant's stories. Gracie and Jacob find love in Anywhere. If Jenn Faulk wrote it then it's worth reading!!!!!!

Couldn't put it down

Lady Nola has made a mistake that will cost her family much shame. When her mother finds out Lady Nola is pregnant, her parents decide she’ll be wed immediately.

Fleeing her home, Lady Nola finds herself on the streets of Medieval London. With her jewels she’s taken to pay her passage, lost, Lady Nola sings carols with a group to earn her way.

The troupe is asked to perform for the twelve nights of festival in a smaller town. The very man her mother wanted her to marry is the Lord of the castle.

When he finds out her secret, Lady Nola runs from him, too. Will the love they both feel be acknowledged by the other?

This is an interesting tale told by Ms. James. The information she gives about the medieval history kept this reader drawn in and the book not put down until it was finished.

Great holiday read

This short novella in the Love's Christmas Past series is packed full. The story of a maiden in medieval England taken advantage of by a roue' and determined not to bring shame on anyone else is a sweet and thoughtful adventure. Nola, daughter of Lord Langley is at a marriageable age, and the nearby newly inherited Sir Guy Beauwater could use a wife. But Nola's secret threatens everything--especially when they meet by chance and fall in love. Worse, Nola's cousin may ruin everything. A freak storm, tragedy, and misunderstanding add to mix in this sweet holiday read.

This is a fine and refreshing debut novel by Ian Ferguson which grips the heart and mind with stylistic nods to such diverse authors as John Irving and Lee Child. All in all, a read to be recommended.

Unusual and entertaining

I discovered this author on social media and found him to be clever and entertaining so I figured I'd give one of his books a go. I was not disappointed. Much like his online persona his storytelling is unique and completely unpredictable. I read 'Two into One' in a single sitting and that's not something I usually do.

If you enjoy a more traditional romance, adventure/crime drama than this book might not float your boat, but if you like cool, creative, crazy mash of many genres than you'll probably get a kick out of it. Ferguson a smart writer and his classic deadpan delivery of the absurd has a very British feeling to it even though it's set in Canada. While reading it I couldn't help but imagine him writing it while sitting in some smoky English pub chuckling to himself with pen in one hand and a scotch in the other :)
