Award-winning Canadian humorist and writer Stephen Leacock (1869-1944) was the author of more than 50 literary works, and between 1915 and 1925 was the most popular humorist in the English-speaking world. Leacock s fictional works include classics like Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town, Arcadian Adventures with the Idle Rich, and Literary Lapses. Anders Tempelman is born in 1962 and is a Swedish Screenwriter, Director and Copywriter. He has written several short films, where two of them have reached an international audience. In 2012 he decided to quit advertising, in order to pursue a much less profitable career with fewer possibilities to achieve success. He sold his first feature film script the same year which will be shot in 2016. A comedy with Michael Nyqvist both as Director and in the leading role. Anders and is currently working on several new tv- and movie project, where most of them probably never will see the light of day. Anders has published "The Blog Whore and other charming stories" which is available on Amazon. A Swedish version is also availabe on amazon.

Heart breaking, embarrassing, mind altering, provocingly current and deeply, deeply entertaining

This is flat out hilarious.

Ever imagined what would happen if president Obama came over for dinner during a state visit, only because someone at the state department thought it would be a good idea for him to meet an average Swede? Ever picked up the phone, and on the other side is the Vatican asking for your advice on how to handle public opinion - as well as inviting you to meet the pope? Or when the marketing department for a huge clothes brand asks for your opinion on how to... nah, I shouldn't spoil it. Get it.

The Blog Whore and other charming stories is simply a collection of blog posts, tied together in a book, all for your reading pleasure. Done before? Absolutely. Brilliant, simply brillant. Every story is a whole world of accurate reflections paired with a unique and sick sense of humour that will make you giggle with fright and laugh out loud with the seamy notion that we human beings are nothing but sad, sad creatures.

Light, fun and brilliant!!!

Out of the creative and imaginative mind of AR Wise, comes a new book and start of a new series…so out of the ordinary for this author, you have to read it to understand what I mean! I am a big fan of Mr. Wise’s and have read all of his books which up until now, have all been more on the serious side. “It's the Apocalypse, Dave: Try to Have Fun” though being a story about the apocalypse and the end of the world as we all know it, is more on the light side of things, with humor and great characters that band together to “try” and survive through many deadly and at times funny situations! As in true Wise form, there is a lot of gore, blood and gross situations (I recommend not eating while reading this one!) but they lend so much to this story making the reader squeamish, say “Yuck”, “Blech” and a whole lot of more while reading. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great and entertaining story! Run…don’t walk to your nearest bookstore or computer to buy this awesome story. Yes, AR Wise DOES NOT let the reader down as with all of his other stories!!! What are you waiting for??? Go and buy it!!!

Horror meets Humor - and it works!

This was a free download that I approached with some trepidation. I love horror. Humor, however, needs to be extremely well done - and well maintained throughout the book - and very few authors seem to have the knack.

A.R. Wise has the knack.

This is a pretty much impeccable mix of somewhat gruesome horror and edgy humor that results in one of the most fun books I've read in ages. Nothing is sacred here. Yet, even when joking about some sensitive issues, Wise is always funny and never offensive. And here's the best part - the horror itself is also stellar. It's creepy, action-packed, and has some fantastic characters.

If I had one complaint, it would only be that the book ended way too soon. I hope the sequel to this one comes out soon because I can't wait to see what happens to Dave and the crew.

~~Broke my Vow of reading no more Apocalypse books~~

A couple of weeks ago I told myself that I was not going to read any more Apocalypse books. My pantry is stuffed with canned goods, my bath area has so many gallons of water in it that I can hardly get into my shower and my mind is full of the 'SHTF' scenarios. From Zombies to creatures that are evolving my dreams are saturated with gloom and doom. Honestly, I swore off Apocalypse books for a few months. And, then a strange thing occurred last evening while looking through new books available on Amazon. This one showed a great promise of humor so I decided to give it a whirl...

Raucous and riveting is my description of it. Entertaining if you appreciate humor with a real twist for 'juice' in it and Dave is like the guy next door that never quite made it to adulthood. Just imagine having $13 in your pocket when the big one finally hits the fan. Incredulous you might say but certainly some will be in that exact situation. (Not me, as in addition to my canned goods, gallons of water and multiple caches of outdoor supplies, I also have gold and the ammo to back my plans up)!

This book by Mr. Wise will both entertain and delight the reader. I guess now that I can really swear off apocalypse books for at least a few more months.

Most highly recommended and I will check to see what other books this author has written.

I loved every word of this book

I loved every word of this book! It is one of the most unique and reality bending books I have ever read. It has found it's way into my top ten with one reading. It will not be the last time I read it. I'm sure I missed a lot the first time through.

A must if you enjoyed Andy Kaufman

Interesting story about a personal journey combined with the story of Andy Kaufman. The storylines are well intertwined and will hook you. Being a big Kaufman fan I found the book interesting and well written. Even if you don't know Kaufman the book works as a coming of age tale of friendships and how they can go right and wrong.

Filled with wonderfully offbeat characters. A wacky read that might just might you think.

Destroying the Tangible Illusion of Reality; or, Searching for Andy Kaufman is a book I won't soon forget. OK, I might forget the title, after all, it is a mouthful.

The story is a fictional expression of the author's life after being diagnosed with a rare combination of large cell lymphoma and Hodgkins. T. Fox Dunham was only the tenth person in the world to have this diagnosis. Thankfully, he's a survivor. His protagonist is not so lucky.

Destroying the Tangible Illusion of Reality; or, Searching for Andy Kaufman is filled with wonderfully offbeat characters. Anthony, diagnosed with cancer. Cynthia, his childhood friend who wants to be more. Tolya, a Mad Russian truck driver. Manhattan, who loves Anthony because he has death inside him.

The opening sequence had me gawking, wondering what the hell I had gotten myself into, but much like an accident at the side of the road, I couldn't tear my eyes away.

Great chapter titles, too, like "ELVIS DIED ON THE TOILET FOR OUR SINS" and "I DON"T BELIEVE IN HELL, JUST NEW JERSEY."

And then, there's the search for Andy Kaufman. If you're already familiar with the comic's legacy, I think you'll really enjoy what the writer has done with this. If you're not, the story is all there with some imaginative twists that could certainly be within the realm of possibility.

Part self expression, part surreal fantasy, part convoluted love story, and part road trip comedy. Dunham manages to intertwine it all into a cohesive and wacky read that might just might you think.

I wanted Destroying the Tangible Illusion of Reality; or, Searching for Andy Kaufman to be true, every word of it, but it can't be. But then? Makes you wonder, much like one of Andy Kaufman's bits.

Broken Deeds.....

This was a nice read. It had a lil bit of everything, mystery, suspense, heartache, redemption, and a hea. As for romance itself, there wasn't a lot of it. For the most part our hero Seth hated everything Carly stood for. It wasn't until close to the end that he started admitting his feelings for Carly Sue. There were no hearts and flowers, wining and dining, nothing to that effect, but there was saving of Carly's life multiple times so what isn't romantic about that? :)

Carly Sue is the niece to Seth's sworn enemy. Seth is the type to hold a grudge and even though none of what happened to his family had anything to do with Carly, she is guilty by association in his eyes. Carly ran away many years ago and was forced to live on the streets. After pulling herself up by her boot straps, she was able to make something of herself. Now she has her GED and is the owner her own bakery. When her uncle dies, she is called back home to take care of things since she is the last known living relative.

Seth is not happy to see Carly and does everything in his power to push her away. To his dismay, his family welcomes Carly Sue with open arms. Seth fights his attraction for her but in the end, true love prevails.

Good story line, nice characters, and the descriptions to details were done well. Written as a multi pov. I could have used a wee bit more of Seth's pov.

All in all a good read.

Sad but Romantic Mystery

Broken Deeds, Broken Hearts is a very sad romantic mystery. Yes, someone killed Ezra and someone was trying to kill Carly but, for me, the bigger mystery was Seth. His anger and guilt were just so sad that when paired with Carly’s life the suspense just took a back seat.
Broken Deeds, Broken Hearts is a good book and, as a plus, I received an ARC and didn’t notice a grammatical or punctuation error at all! (This is an Advance copy & I constantly find errors in professionally bound books!)
The only thing about Broken Deeds, Broken Hearts I didn’t like is that so much is made out of Seth’s guilt but I personally didn’t feel that enough emphasis was given to his actual crime, just to his fix.

It's a must read for a Faith based leader regardless of their role or their industry.

THE GOSPEL GOES TO WORK has challenged me both personally and professionally.

I am still wrestling with one of the core questions that Steve posed to the reader, “How does the gospel go to work in my industry and especially in my particular organization?” I work every day to make this a part of what I do and our organization’s culture, however I find that too often it is during the highs and lows of the work week that this rings true. These highs and lows represent about 10% of the actual time we spend at work.

The real struggle for me is answering this question for the mundane (the daily grind) which is the remaining 90% of what we call work. Making it a part of the daily fiber of what we do each day at work with our teams, our customers and yes even the quiet time that you have working on a project is what I have been struggling with.

The good news is that Steve takes us down the path to answer this question and more. In his unique style, he lays out other challenging topics in a way that we can all understand and apply.

It's a must read for a Faith based leader regardless of their role or their industry.

Clear & compelling; a great framework for thinking about Faith@Work

Just finished this book on a topic I've been keenly interested in for a long time. If you're looking for a clear and compelling case for gospel-centered work, this is a great resource. It lays out a philosophical and practical framework very well (both for individuals and for organizations). The author's categories of "baseline and blue sky" make this a practical faith@work book, yet keep it from becoming a legalistic one-size-fits-all approach.

I asked myself if this was a resource I could recommend to my friends who worked in a variety of settings- entry and executive levels, white and blue collar, full and part-time, profit and non-profit. The answer was yes. That's not an easy task. Yet that's what the framework of "The Gospel Goes to Work" does well.

I have read a number of books about integrating our faith with our work. I enjoyed some of the unique perspectives to this issue that the author brought forward in this new book.

The author tells us that the book is about work and the gospel. Not ministry work only, but every kind of work. He aims to focus on the question: What more can you and I do to engage the gospel through our work? He introduces the reader to what he calls the four-act gospel, which provides a comprehensive grid of meaning for our lives, including our work. He states that work itself is a service to God. He argues that the message about the gospel’s integration with work is needed as much now as it ever has been, if not more so.

He provides a different way of looking at the integration of faith and work. He first talks about a lowest-common-denominator application of the gospel that is relevant to all workers and all workplaces. This is what he calls the Baseline. Then, there are individualized applications of the gospel for each of us in our particular wiring and for our particular organizations. He calls this the Blue Sky.
He tells us that The Baseline is the starting point or universal minimum for all people in all environments, regardless of their personality, title, age, background, and other particulars. The Blue Sky represents the boundless horizons of what could be when someone personalizes any idea or insight.

He tells us that the gospel going to work will look different depending on where we work and what we do. He tells us that when we merge the baseline/blue sky pair with the individual/organizational pair, you get The Gospel Goes to Work Grid. It covers the whole range of workplace expressions of the gospel. He then looks at each quadrant in detail as well as four foundation stones. The four foundation stones are:

• Foundation Stone 1: You give evidence of your calling
• Foundation Stone 2: You display character on the job
• Foundation Stone 3: You deliver skill consistently
• Foundation Stone 4: You model service to others

I found his list of a “Gospel 500” (think of the Fortune 500) to be of interest. He lists organizations that would make his list in each of four regions of the Blue Sky. Among those listed that you may be familiar with are Chick Fil-A and Hobby Lobby.

He writes that we all must ask and answer, “How does the gospel go to work in my industry and especially in my particular organization?” He feels that this is the most penetrating question anyone can ask in his or her faith and work. It requires vulnerable personalization. And it demonstrates a mature faith that depends on God doing His work His way. He writes that the gospel is intended to penetrate, permeate, and alter the way we consider our work and do our work.

I enjoyed this book and its unique approach to the important issue of how we integrate our faith and work and recommend it to you.

Good story

I loved Pumpkin! She was beautiful and truly displayed all of the real emotions of someone who's been touched by life in many ways. Evie was off the chain! The things she did, no mother should do. But, no matter what there's always some fun-loving person to bring balance and in this book that was Bertie. I loved her!

In this story, you meet good characters and see just how far some people will go to get what they want and the fallout from such selfish acts. Yet you also experience what happens when true love abides.

This story was really good but the ending felt a bit rushed and I did notice quite a few grammatical errors. I'll give it four stars!!!!

A Piece of the Pie

A Piece of the Pie is an excellent title for the storyline.
Pumpkin raised by her grandmother is a successful model and wife.
As the holiday approaches things start to fall apart in Pumpkin's life. Pumpkin's mother who never had any contact with her shows up broke, homeless and owing a loan shark money.
Is Evie back to ask for forgiveness from Pumpkin or does she just want a piece of the pie?

This storyline was written well and right in time for family holiday.
The storyline is very good and will hold your attention from the beginning to the end.

This book would make a great book club discussion.

A Piece of the Pie!!!! Excellent job Michelle Lindo-Rice on book 1!!! Evie was a hot mess; using men to obtain material things in life. Evie had no problem sleeping with men, without having any love for them. Evie only had love for one man. Evie became a single teenage mom, after having her baby girl; Pumpkin she left Pumpkin with her mom. Evie ended up with the wrong man and was left homeless and owing a large sum of money to a loan shark. Evie decides to go home for her benefit…
