Great tips for exercising and improving concentration!

In the past week, I lost my cell phone three times. I burned my hand because I was trying to type while I poured coffee, and I texted, sent emails and watched cat videos during a webinar. So...I felt that I was a good candidate for reading this book. I'm so glad I did! The suggestions made by author Joanna Jast have already made a huge difference in my 'typical day'... for example, I logged my distractions for a few days and was able to see a pattern. When I observed my home and work environments, I was shocked by the number of times my attention wandered or was spread too thin. There were external issues, such as people interrupting me, the phone ringing when I was busy, etc, but the vast majority of my distractions were created by me. The good news is that if I created them, I can contain them. I've made a plan and set goals that I want to achieve through better focus. This book is full of insight and common sense and the suggestions are easy to follow. In short... it works!

A comprehensive, easy-to-read guide to improving your focus.

Joanna Jast, a trained doctor, has written a comprehensive, easy-to-read guide to improving your focus which can be easily understood by the layman.

Near the beginning there is a section entitled 'Your specific situation and how to diagnose problems in your system', so right away I was able to personalize the system.
There is a lot of practical advice, and reminders of tried and trusted methods (which the author states up front. Such as the 'Pomodoro' method and getting enough sleep!)
And there were a few 'surprises' in there: 'Why I Believe 'Getting Motivated' is Overrated' certainly got my attention, as did 'The Importance of Managing Energy, not Time.'

I found the final section on making a system for myself extremely helpful. As were the links to further reading and free downloads for the different exercises suggested.

This is a book which cannot fail to help as there is so much advice and information here, clearly laid out and well presented.

A great guide for a scatter brained person like me

I'm a creative and enthusiastic person but I can be very scatter brained at times. I want to be successful, but my mind goes in several different directions. I realize that focus is a key factor to success so I'm always looking for resources to help me develop and enhance my ability to focus.

Joanna hits the nail on the head and gives easy to follow practical advice on how to stay focused. It's more of a tactical book than an inspirational one, and sometimes we need less passion and more precision. There's no fluff in this book. It's not intended to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. This book is a guide with useful information that allows you to create a strategy for focusing that's built around your unique personality. She isn't simply giving her opinion, she uses information that's backed by research. The quality of her education and the breadth of her knowledge is clearly shown throughout the book.

I gleaned a ton of great insight from the book and I know that the strategies in it are going to help me immensely moving forward.

The key to success is focus. Read this book if you need the focus to reach your goals.

Astra Rocks

Without Astra and her powers, Dialle is depressed and turning more and more dark and the kingdom is loosing the light. Astra is fighting as best she can, even though she is also depressed. She even goes to Heaven to talk with a counselor.
I received this book for an honest review.
The battle scenes are outstanding. We get introduced to more areas of the royal kingdom of Dialle and Astra's. we also see more of the subjects some of them are partly good, some totally bad, but they are all hot!
Does Astra get her powers back? Do her and Dialle reign over the kingdom together? These and more questions will be answered in this well written with love for her characters, novel.

Thats the question I asked myself while reading. No, I won't answer it here, but, either way, there is a satisfying conclusion to the story. Ms. Cheever's books are always filled with lots of humor and amusing situations, many of which Astra brings upon herself by being so stubborn. This was another delightful romp in Astra's world, and I'll look forward to any new books in this series. Thanks for keeping me interested, Sam Cheever!

Passion and mystery!!!

Wow!!! Book 6 was amazing. Astra battled herself after the loss of her powers. Relationships and changed and strained. She must find the strength to save herself and Dialle. Once again loyalties are tested and deeper friendships are formed. Things are not always as they seem and Astra must work with friend and foe to save Dialle. Another passion filled mystery with suspense and comedy. Love this series. Highly recommended!!!

Started interesting but the plot was poorly developed

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The novel is written in the present tense what creates a sense of immediacy and makes you feel like in a movie watching the events unfold right before your eyes. Only here you feel more like in a B-movie. The pace is brisk and the writing style is easy-to-read. But the characters are little credible and their behaviour predictable. I was not drawn to any of them. The story started interesting but the plot was poorly developed, highly improbable and hard to follow at times and the use of present tense made it even more confusing. I felt also disappointed with the way it ended.

An entertaining read!

This was a really entertaining story and a fast read. In fact, I read it all in one sitting one afternoon and really enjoyed it. The main character is really wonderful and someone that most women can relate to. You find yourself really rooting for her and hoping she realizes how much she's loved and valued by those around her. I found myself liking the supporting characters as well--they all felt like real people to me. I especially loved Andi's best friend and her husband and how supportive both of them were of Andi. I loved the humor in the book, too. Andi gets into all kinds of scrapes and many situations I could totally identify with. The one at the doctor's office made me laugh. This is a great book that deals with the gap between how we see ourselves--especially those of us that struggle with our weight--versus how others see us, and the challenge of letting our self-esteem be determined by who we are, rather than how we look.

I'd definitely recommend this book!

A fun and entertaining read

In this book Julie Elizabeth Powell exposes all of the insecurities most women feel. The main character, Andi, is overweight so most of her feelings of inadequacy are based around her size and whether she measures up to other women. She fears that she may not be attractive enough and that her partner will leave her; having suffered a previous marriage breakdown, she feels paranoid. I'm sure that plenty of women will be able to relate to Andi for so many different reasons. With the media bombarding us with images of what a perfect woman should look like, this book digs deeper and reveals that there is so much more to a person than what is on the outside. Full of believable characters and hilarious scenes, this a fast-paced and satisfying read. The only slight criticism I have is that in some parts I felt the book might have been better written in the first person as it was so detailed in regard to Andi's thoughts and feelings. This didn't affect my enjoyment of the story though.

A very funny read

Yet again a book where I can totally relate to the lead character!

This book is all about the life of Andi, a married mum of 2, ready to turn 40, and her misadventures in the run up to this occasion.

Andi is fat, although to be honest when she lists her weight as 9lbs 2ozs I was thinking to myself "Fat? That's so not fat, I will show you fat!"

Throughout the book she struggles to remain positive in the face of other people's perceptions of her. She attends a weekly 'fat club', dreads that long walk up to the scales to be told how much, if anything, she has lost that week. It was 1lb by the way!

She struggles too with her relationships with husband, daughter, ex husband and friends. This book is about her daily belief that she is not worthy of very much.

The author does an amazing job of getting inside Andi's head and bringing her thoughts out onto the page. Andi is such an easy character to empathise with for those of us who do struggle with weight and self esteem issues. She outwardly gives the impression of being happy and jolly, yet inside she isn't, and not even her best friend and husband know the depth of her doubts in herself.

A great read which has so much humour within it I laughed out loud a few times. I can recognise myself in so many of the situations Andi finds herself in.
One particular part which made me laugh, as well as wonder how she found the guts to do it, involves a costume she wears near the end of the book. I won't say anything more than this - I want one!! So so funny.

A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Such an important and honest read.

Important and unashamedly honest sharing of coming into womanhood and much more. This will resonant with many women, young and old, as it did with me. Significant questions arise about how parents, teachers and other adults should be paying attention as our children, young men and women, are struggling with finding their voice, sexuality, and connecting with spirituality. Oh, and it's a very good read,

A wonderfully fun read!

This book is more than just a sequel to the author's first book. Her characters are more real, and much more developed, displaying a wonderful mix of traits (both good and bad) that we all share. The story moves well and is appealing to young and old alike.

I look forward to a third installment. (There will be one, won't there?)
