It lives up to its name, and in a good way

"Creepy Christmas 2" is a collection of Christmas-inspired works of varying genres, with author notes from Toby Bennett (I assume no relation to Tony) explaining them in between sections. Because each entry deals with a different style and story, I'll review each one individually:
"Wreck the Halls"
A short, lyrical spoof of the Christmas carol Deck the Halls. I don't really have much to say about this - it pretty much speaks (or sings) for itself.
"The Emperor of Ham"
This is a sci-fi story about an alien race planning to invade earth. One of the high-ranking aliens goes down to check on the special forces team that was sent ahead of the main army, only to find that the team has become distracted by the worst aspects of human civilization. On top of this, the aliens have discovered Christmas ham, which they bring back to their own culture. The affects of this Christmas ham, as well as what happens after the alien empire becomes addicted to it, are detailed in the rest of the story.
It's an amusing read, and one which is mostly just a mockery of modern western culture. The most amusing aspect is that, while the human decadence does end up affecting the aliens, it likewise ends up biting us all at the end. I won't give what happens away - read the story yourself!
"The Christmas Visit"
A woman going to visit an aging family member crashes her car during a raging snow storm, and encounters an odd elderly woman who lives alone. Well, not quite alone. She has a dog...sort of.
This part is a quick read, but still entertaining. It starts out normal, then gets weird, then even weirder. There's a kick-in-the-butt ending which was quite fitting for this material, and made it all worth it. It definitely didn't quite go the way I was expecting.
"A Wight Christmas"
This is a horror tale centered around an orphanage, told from the perspective of one of the young inhabitants. The owners of the orphanage are rough and cruel to the children, and when a young girl who claims to come from a noble family is brought in, she's treated no differently. However, she has a dark secret, and one which gets revealed her first night there.
Of all the stories in this anthology, this was probably one of the strongest. I loved the setting, I loved the characters, and I loved the ending. I almost wished it had been longer, if not even taken into full novel length! (Or at the very least, novella.) I definitely wouldn't mind reading something like this in a longer format.
"The Whole Tooth"
This story actually isn't Christmas-themed at all. Rather, it's about a young boy named Robert who discovers the tooth fairy (actually, fairies) under his pillow, and tries to make a deal with them to end all mockery he's been suffering at school.
As I just wrote in the last paragraph, it's not really about Christmas at all, and the author admits as much in his note ("these mythological personifications all look alike to me"). However, it was still an amusing read, especially with the banter between the tooth fairies and the kid, which gave me some laughs. This tale also has a kick-in-the-butt ending, and a fitting one for the storyline.
While the flow of the whole book is readable, there are a lot of spelling or grammar errors throughout - certainly more than I normally encounter when reading indie works. However, there's a funny bit in the introduction where author Toby Bennett writes, "The eagle-eyed will likely spot some spelling errors or formatting inconsistencies - I added them just to annoy you!" That made me laugh, and maybe I'm too gracious of a reviewer, but it made me more forgiving of the errors I encountered within. Plus the errors aren't so egregious that you won't understand what the heck you're reading (unlike some other works I've encountered).
