Review
The cry of every parent and church leader in this generation is "How do I help create media-safe homes?" Right Click is a wonderful resource that gives practical answers to the most-often asked questions about how to handle social media. I loved the sections on setting limits and the importance of dealing with bullying and porn. This is my go-to book for parents. --Dr. Jim Burns, President, HomeWord, author of Confident Parenting

Buy This Book
By Steven Johhson
If I could, I would buy this book for every parent in my church. I am so excited about this resource. It is honestly the most thoughtful, practical, and helpful books on digital media available. As I read the book, I wanted to process it with anyone near me. Luckily, the questions at the end of each chapter help the reader do just that. I would recommend reading this in a group and talking about it together. Buy it for yourself and 4 of your friends. It will shift the way you and your family approaches and uses digital media.

"Right Click" - a great parenting resource!
By Jamie
'We’re in this with you. Digital media isn’t our friend or our enemy. It’s just part of life now. Let’s chart a new path together!' (p15)
I am a youth pastor for twenty plus years. The world has drastically changed from the mid-nineties to now. We’ve gone from cassettes to cd’s to iPods to online streaming and probably other forms. The world is wonderfully different. There was a real reality check in the past ten years for me when I fell behind students with technology. I hear the same thing from parents. How do we keep up and engage?
"Right Click" gives the healthy perspective, 'It’s an invitation to step into the digital world of kids with greater understanding and create a plan that’s right for your family.' (p24) With this perspective first comes the truth that parents and families have the responsibility of setting a workable framework and covenant of technology for their family. Second, our authors give helpful discussion questions and information on screen time, age appropriateness, boundaries, and family gathering points.
I am also a parent of a 9-year old and 7-year old. Both have school issued laptops or tablets. They are a click, search, or post away from situations that we do not want for them. How do I monitor actions and build trust in them? What do I do when something happens? We are given practical tips, suggestions and information to navigate this web of the new world we are living.
There are many books out there to help parents, but "Right Click" is one of the best at being thoughtful and useful. They understand the reality of the world we are in. As I began quoting from the book that the digital world we are in is neither our friend nor our enemy, it’s simply our life now. Families, if they use tools like "Right Click," will do well living and growing together.

Realistic, practical guide. Highly recommended.
By Rachel B
I so appreciate a book on this topic that is not downright negative and judging about the digital age our kids grow up in. I’m tired of well-meaning people lamenting the good old days—they’re not coming back and besides, in many ways the new technologies have brought improvements I truly appreciate.
What’s also refreshing is that the advice doesn’t focus on rules, but on principles and conversations. I quote: “A host of resources […] tell parents what to do about the latest digital media fad, rather than how to think about digital media more comprehensively.”
As (grand)parents, youth leaders, teachers, etc. we are from a different generation. We know deep down that we approach media differently than teens, but we don’t always take the time to understand how differently. This book makes clear what social media mean to teens for instance, what their goals are and the incentives (‘perceived needs’) for using them.
The focus in Right Click is purely on strengthening the relationship with your kids, by continuous conversations about digital media. The authors give multiple examples of how technology can actually bring you closer together as a family, instead of making each family member an island unto him/herself.
The book offers suggestions for media covenants you can set up as a family, shows how you can mentor your kids in becoming responsible digital citizens, and much more. It’s practical, warm, and above all realistic.
I loved the quotes and stories from other parents, which communicated what was said early on in the book: this kind of parenting is new and we are making it up as we go along. So there’s bound to be fails and mistakes…and that’s okay. This book may help you prevent a few though. I definitely recommend it, also for parents of younger kids by the way, as it will help you shape your 'digital parenting' and get off to a good start.
