Unbeknown to William and Madison, however, Europe’s war with Bonaparte has ended and four thousand battle-hardened veterans - Wellington's Invincibles - have been dispatched across the Atlantic with orders to Raise Hell. By the time William arrives in Chesapeake Bay it isn’t the welcoming embrace of the President that greets him but the British poised for invasion.
Based around true events, The Washington Adventure follows a chain of catastrophes that sees William's slaves being taken by the British to fight the Americans and ends with him being blamed for the destruction of the White House as the new capital is obliterated in a single night.

The Washington Adventure is so amusing, I laughed through nearly every page.

The Washington Adventure is a delight to read. Nearly every paragraph contains some witty comment by one of the characters. William, the main character, is the most fun of all. His outlook on what is at times, exceedingly graphic, but still very entertaining. There is nothing boring about this novel. I confess, I wanted to read more after William returns from his adventure and what happens next. This is especially true of his man Samuel, who travels with him, much to Williams annoyance. Some of Samuel's antics are outrageous but at the same time very amusing.

Steven Michael Moore, the author of The Washington Adventure has produced something that I did not expect from the title. I am so glad I had the chance to read it. His style of writing is brilliant. I will be looking for other novels from this outstanding author.

Jim Boyett's "Brothel" is a beautifully told tale of bored college town life. It's the sort of book which you read and then later thing you remembered those things having actually happened in your own life. He draws the characters so that you can almost smell them as they walk past you. And he keeps the movement in the action such that you can't guess what's going to happen and yet when it does happen you say to yourself "Of COURSE."

Talk About A Biblical "Love" Triangle

In the Children of Eber, Caryl McAdoo continues the Genesis story using her creative imagination to fill in the blanks where her King James Version of Scripture remains silent. She picks up the account of Father Abraham in Ur of the Chaldees when his name was Abram before he weds the love of his life, Sarai. At this point, God has yet to speak fully to Abram, but he has been raised in the traditions of his fathers and knows the One True God by reputation. All that changes when God reveals Himself to Abram personally calling him to move to a strange unknown land. Abram immediately takes this word to his own father, Terah, who confirms the move saying he’s been thinking along the same lines. They set out. By this time Abram has married Sarai whose reaction to the camel ride to Haran and internal musings about her surroundings delights the reader.
So much of the tale remains faithful to the Scriptural account, but where there is silence, Caryl’s author voice sings through in delicious detail. For the reader who is familiar with the Biblical account, Caryl fleshes out a mere paragraph or two until the narrative vibrates with life. As if transported through a time machine, the reader reenters the world of the Ancients experiencing their lives and seeing their surroundings afresh. Those who know the Biblical account will delight in following the ancient pair into Egypt, then back to Canaan again. They’ll commiserate alongside Sarai through her infertility feeling her aching heart’s desire in the depths of her soul. They’ll catch their breath when Lot is captured. They’ll rejoice when Abram receives his new name Abraham and Sarai becomes Sarah. When God reappears to Abraham at night in a strange ancient ritual, we stand in awe at the event . . . then . . . well, this reviewer will say no more lest the tale spoils for the reader, but if you know the Biblical story in Genesis, you will know how it ends. Suffice it to say, Caryl McAdoo has remained faithful to the King James Version of the Holy Scriptures.

Early Scripture content adapted as readable Historical Fiction

Caryl McAdoo again makes the Old Testament come alive in fictional form but Biblically true. I have to admit being a bit lost in names at first (my apparent lack of Bible scholarship), but after just a few pages McAdoo simplifies the Abraham/Sarah life story in easy to follow fashion. Readers are drawn into the ancient times of Biblical lands and the inhabitants that form the beginnings of the linage to Jesus. True to contemporary fiction character, the story includes incest, adultery, murder, war, trials, romance, death and new life, and family dysfunction. That is also true of the Genesis account of Abraham and Sarah’s life journey. Caryl McAdoo tells it true, but at a page-turner pace.
Only 110 pages of story, and recommended for all ages from grade 4 and onward to olde guys like me. This book even encouraged me to research a bit in the scriptures—another Good Book.

With this story ending by the mention of Abraham’s sons fathering their own sons, I suspect Caryl McAdoo is not finished with these Genesis Generations stories. Hope not, I have enjoyed all 4, to date.

Biblical fiction at its best.

This is another wonderful addition to The Generations series. This one follows Abram and his journey in following God and becoming the Father of Faith. Once again Caryl has written a story that has brought to life a Biblical character and allows the reader to feel as if you are meeting the character personally. I really can't say enough about this series and how much I have enjoyed reading each story. I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review, and I definitely recommend it to the reader who enjoys excellent Biblical fiction.

Wonderful ending to the series!

I had been waiting for the final book in this series and was not disappointed. Warren and Shauna's story came with several ups and downs, along with an unexpected ending. I'm sorry to see this series end as I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and hope to see more from this author in the near future. I recommend this book and if you haven't read the series, I'd encourage you to do so.

About the Author

Jane Monk lives in Tasmania, Australia. She is a self-taught artist who has been drawing since she was a young girl, inspired by the beauty in all things in the natural and man-made worlds. Patterns and repetition, and the sometimes quirky and different, are what inspire her work.

An award-winning machine quilter, Jane quilts professionally for others through her business, Jane Monk Studio. In 2010 Jane became a certified Zentangle teacher and combines her love of Zentangle and quilting by bringing these two complementary mediums together. She has designed quilt patterns for publication in quilting magazines and produced a DVD showcasing the basics of Zentangle and quilting. 52 Wonderful and Intricate Tangle Garden Designs – printed one side of great perforated paper

[[VIDEOID:4e334177d9375b5e2245b5cabe1e965]]This is not only a beautiful coloring book filled with 52 intricate hand-drawn designs but it is also an extremely well made one, too. The designs in the book focus on the garden, with many floral subjects. As a gardener, this focus is very appealing to me. The book goes far beyond that and has animals (rabbits, owls, etc.) as well as birds and insects as well. The artist's style makes me think of whimsical and fun times but the designs also have very intricate and sophisticated styling under the playful surface. Each of the designs seem like they will be a great coloring experience.

As if the designs alone were not enough, the artist has included page and page of information teaching various color theory and techniques. I've seen other books with some information in them but this is the most detailed one that I have seen as yet. I'm impressed and will certainly be putting some of Ms. Monk's suggestions into practice. I'm also impressed enough that I will be purchasing her first book in the near future, too.

The book is very well made and is slightly smaller than a standard coloring book. The pages are printed on one side of heavyweight bright white perforated paper. Some of the designs extend past the perforations but nothing of note will be missing if you remove the page from the book. The binding is sewn in rather than glued.

My markers were a mixed bag when it came to coloring in this book. The only ones that consistently did not leak through were my Staedler triplus fineliners. My Tombows dual end brush did not leak when I used the brush end but did with the marker end. All other markers – both water and alcohol-based leaked through. My gel pens did not leak through but needed extra drying time. My various coloring pencils all worked well. Whatever coloring tools you decide to use, you can either put a heavyweight page below the page you are working on or you can remove the page easily from the book to keep ink from leaking through to the next design.

One of the few really high quality colouring books

Jane has produced another enjoyable book of high quality. Too many colouring books have been rushed to print in order to jump on the bandwagon of the colouring book craze. The illustrations in those books are of poor quality and have very little aesthetic appeal. Not so Jane's book - the pictures are well drawn and offer great colouring experience. The paper quality is excellent which reduces the annoying bleed through found in many other books. All around a fantastic purchase! Thanks Jane!

Great design, not so great paper

I bought mine from a local book store but I wanna review it here. The designs are amazing. They are not too detailed to scare away beginners like many other coloring books usually do. The pages are simple enough for people who never touched art supplies in years. Yet the results are always so amazing that I start to think I might actually have an artistic side.

The pages are one-sided, so you can use alcohol-based markers, and they are perforated. The only reason I took one star off is because I am not impressed by the quality of paper. I used Faber-Castell PITT artist pen and it streaked to an useless point on this book while it didn't streak on my other coloring books. Colored pencils and permanent markers worked fine.

Excelente historia!!! No he parado de sonreír ...

Excelente historia!!! No he parado de sonreír desde el comienzo hasta el final, y como si eso no bastara, hay escenas que son para estallar en carcajadas.
Es una novela donde los personajes están perfectamente delineados, y no solo eso, se muestran con todos sus aciertos y sus cientos de errores. Cada uno es especial, Mel, Kate, Nuestro enano James (Adorable), R, la madre de Mel; Alex, el príncipe azul.. y hay más. Está narrada en primera persona por una Mel que dice una cosa y piensa mil por detrás, una genia, realmente ella es un personaje maravilloso, y si la unimos a Kate, su amiga, podemos encontrar todo tipo de desastres. Pero quién me robó el corazón es ese duende o enano llamado James, inteligente, lleno de virtudes y bondades hacia la protagonista.
Al margen de la belleza de la historia, y de que me la pasé genial durante toda la lectura; está escrita de forma impecable, con diálogos muy ingeniosos y escenas hilarantes. Muy recomendada!!!

¡Cómo me ha gustado esta novela!. Hacía tiempo que tenía pendiente leer algo de Julianne y no me defraudó en absoluto. 21 divorcios y 1 boda real... es una novela divertida, fresca y sumamente llevadera de leer. Sus personajes me han hecho reír muchísimo. Todos y cada uno de ellos con sus características y sus profesiones te cautivan a su manera. Súper ocurrente el modo en que Mel se gana la vida y ese James -de solo recordarlo vuelvo a reír-. Que lindo es reírse cuando uno lee. Me encantó . Recomendadísima.

Una historia que te hará reír desde las primeras páginas, pero que también te hará suspirar y sentirte en la piel de los personajes. A Delicious Series!

I read this series backwards and loved every minute of it. I've read series books before in reverse order and I was drawn to the cover for Christmas Wedding at the Gingerbread Cafe and I loved the things like the wedding invitation I had seen on some blogs for this book and excitedly read it. I absolutely loved the story and the characters. After I finished it I went to the first book and loved it as well. I loved seeing Lily and Damon meet for the first time. Rebecca Raisin is a wonderful author that writes with such emotion and skill you can't help but fall in love with the worlds she creates. If you enjoy books filled with romance, laughable moments, and characters that you will think about for days, then grab this series right away!

The story follows Lily, owner of The Gingerbread Café and the gorgeous, charming Damon in the cute little town of Ashford.
Lily was just a lovely character, feisty too but someone you could have a chat with over a glass of mulled wine or a mug of gingerbread coffee, she was an absolute pleasure to get to know. But I absolutely loved CeeCee, her protectiveness of Lily and her straightforward no nonsense attitude. Their friendship is gorgeous; real, warm and their banter is just flawless.

The café shines out as this heart of the community place; warm, welcoming and cosy. The descriptions of the food were vivid and delicious I could almost smell the delicious foods being created in this café.

The love story between Damon and Lil is just beautiful. The characters are so well rounded, so real and i loved that this whole community was painted as a vibrant, wonderful, rich tapestry of life. Rebecca just has such a wonderful way of writing her characters with their own sub plots, pasts and problems.

This story has it all, perfect heartwarming romance, gorgeous characters, brilliant humour and rich descriptions. I absolutely devoured this book. It made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me go awwww on every page. Curl up with this gorgeous, sparkly read. Its a cosy, gorgeous, gooey, soft centred romantic read that will warm your heart at any time of the year

It's been quite a busy past few weeks so huge apologies for not having a book recommendation up for nearly a month! Hope you've all been enjoying plenty of great reads in that time though, we have certainly made time to squeeze in a few chapters here and there.

I wanted to tell you all today about not just one book but a series of books. I believe Lucy has recommended a few books by Rebecca Raisin before, but after just finishing her series on my Kindle, I couldn't resist telling you all about them too.

Firstly, do any of you have a kindle? What do you guys think of them? Personally, I used to feel like I would never want one because I am a, like having a book in my hand, filling up my book shelf with lots of different authors and colors, kind of girl. But I admit that when Lucy was telling me she had the Kindle app on her phone and was reading these adorable books about a gingerbread cafe, I was curious. My phone didn't have that app already on it though and I didn't want to download it knowing it would be another reason to be glued to it, (my phone) so I was just going to wait until I was with her and read a little if I got the chance. That was until a friend in Tampa, whilst packing his belongings to move house, came across a Kindle keyboard he had never opened and decided to give it to me! I have the sweetest friends! :) I was so excited and knew exactly which books I was going to download first...send me all of Rebecca Raisin's books please and thank you!! :)

Technically I believe "The Bookshop on the Corner" is its's own little series with the second book, The Bookshop on the Seine coming out this October, but it fit nicely after the first two Gingerbread café books.

All these books are short stories so at first I had to adjust to certain events happening quite quickly, however once I got acquainted with each character and the little town of Ashford, where the stories are set, I immediately fell in love. "The Gingerbread café" series follows a girl, Lil who owns The Gingerbread café as she works hard to keep her café open, make money, get over her ex and dreams of falling in love for real. The small town feel, the friendly people, the Christmas setting, the little businesses, not to mention the delicious treats that Lil and her best friend Cece make at the Gingerbread café that leave your mouth watering are just perfect for curling up by the fire or cuddling up in a blanket.The way Rebecca Raisin describes everything transports you to the town and you feel all cozy and warm inside like you are sitting by the fire at the Gingerbread café, drinking a gingerbread coffee yourself.

As for "The little bookshop on the corner" I don't think I've ever read a book that describes the love of reading books so perfectly. This story follows Sarah, the owner of the little bookshop on the corner and a romance novel lover who is waiting for her "Harlequin" guy, after all, they can't only just be in the books she reads can they? The next book in this series is "The bookshop on the seine" which I literally squealed at when I saw it on Amazon. I am so excited to be in Sarah's world again that I just can't wait! That comes out in October but thankfully "Secrets at the Maple Syrup farm" a new series come out in April so I don't have to wait too long to read more of Rebecca Raisins delightful stories.

If you have a kindle, the app on your phone or tablet, I highly recommend this series. They are short but oh so deliciously sweet that I guarantee you will gobble them up! :)

Thorough, No-Spin Answers to Traditional Jewish Objections to Jesus

On the one hand, Michael L. Brown shows great respect to the Jewish tradition and a love for his fellow Jews. On the other hand, Brown answers objections to Messianic Judaism with clarity and first a concise, then a detailed response.

The Talmud and traditional Jewish understandings have much to offer, but Brown documents that they often run contrary to the plain and obvious sense of the Torah given to Moses, they often contradict one another, and are obviously wrong, absurdly cumbersome, and contrary to the practice of the godly in the Tanakh itself in a number of ways. The medical prescriptions in b. Git. 68b-69a sound more like superstition from the Middle Ages than divinely inspired truth (who would want to practice such cures?).

As far as the so-called Oral Law clarifying the Torah, Brown comments, "... understanding the Torah is far less challenging than understanding the alleged divine explanation of the Torah preserved in rabbinic tradition."

Good hands-on information, well argued.

Excellent from my favorite apologetic author

Great book so far, this series is an excellent reference source to see the deeper things of God and his relationship with His people. Reading it will fine tune your discernment and understanding of the varied ways people view scripture and what it actually says and means. It can be fascinating to learn of the peculiar ways the Jewish sages have sidestepped some of the main and plain of what is written. I would think it is getting harder and harder for Dr. Brown to find Rabbi's to debate him as his love is real, his knowledge great and each are further enhanced by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. He is a hard man not to like, I can't imagine their are many who try and love others in truth who would not enjoy a coffee with him sometime.
If your interested in truth seek it out and buy it!

I absolutely love Dr. Brown's work. I have just about every book he's written. He is by far the best scholar that the Church has concerning Jesus and this is by far his best work. I recommend all of his writings, but especially this one.

I Adore This Book

I grew up in a Baptist church. My father (bless u daddy) was a minister and my mother (bless u ma) was a lovely saved woman, yet I never knew the right way to pray. Now I do!

Thank you ma, daddy, and Neville Goddard. I am practicing prayer this way daily and the blessings flow. How great is that!

John has a UNIQUE Talent to - Develop Characters,
and this book has a LOT of - Characters - in it.
John writes like a Combination of - Kurt Vonnegut, Jr and Elmore Leonard.

I am a huge Si-FiL Fan. This book is unique and stands alone. Catchy opening followed by the mystery of where it is going. Really catching. Unfortunately I have Been going through it slower than I like. I am starting to write my own book and John Rachel's 11-11-11 is my reward after I have written for at least two hours. Highly recommended .
